Privacy
MovieBest works without an account. There is no password to remember and no profile to manage. Setting the app up asks for your email address so we have a way to reach you, and you can skip that step.
What stays on your phone
Your lists, your progress through a series and any private notes you write are stored on your device. We do not upload them, and we cannot read them.
What is collected
Your email address, if you choose to give it. The app asks when you first set it up, and you are free to skip that step and carry on. If you do give it, we use it to contact you about the app and to help you when you get in touch.
Beyond that, only what the app needs to work. Enough to run its features, keep your subscription active, fix problems and show ads in the free version. Nothing more.
Services the app uses
The app relies on a few outside providers to work:
- Apple. Distributes the app, and handles purchases, subscriptions, billing and refunds.
- RevenueCat. Manages subscription status, so the app knows what you have access to.
- Mixpanel. Product analytics, so we can see which features get used and what to improve.
- Google AdMob. Serves advertising in the free version.
- OpenAI. Powers the AI features, such as finding a title from a description, and anything similar we add later.
- TMDB. Supplies the catalogue: posters, ratings, cast, release dates and where to watch.
- TelemetryDeck. Analytics for this website, so we can see which pages get visited. It is built not to identify anyone.
Each of these may be used for anything within its area, not only the examples above, and we may add, replace or drop providers as the app develops. Each one handles data under its own privacy policy.
Who it is shared with
Only the providers above, and only so they can do their job. We do not sell your data. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the app and the people using it.
How long it is kept
Only as long as it is useful for the reasons above, then deleted. Anything stored on your device stays until you clear it or delete the app.
Where it goes
Our providers operate internationally, so data may be handled in countries other than your own, including the United States. They are expected to protect it wherever it is processed.
Your choices and rights
You can clear your lists in the app whenever you like, and deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device. Tracking and ad permissions are controlled in your iOS privacy settings, and you can turn tracking off at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what data relates to you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used. Write to us and we will help. If you gave the app an email address, send your message from it so we can find the right records.
Security
We use providers that apply industry standard protection, and we keep what is collected to a minimum. No service can promise perfect security, so we do not.
Children
MovieBest is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided data, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes to this page
We update this page when things change. We do not send a notice each time, so check back now and then. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and continuing to use the app means you accept the current version.
